“Cats-in-Residence” opening reception and lecture
December 21, 2014
Meow! Would you like more rescue cats with your Art?
Conceived and orchestrated by writer and artist/curator Rhonda Lieberman, The Cats-in-Residence Program comes to 356 S. Mission Road in LA after a supurrb debut at White Columns in New York City and a recent residency in Connecticut at Real Art Ways.
Part purr-formance piece, part social sculpture, part design solution, The Cats-in-Residence Program integrates art and rescue to address animal overpopulation in urban areas. Our local purr-formers (a.k.a. adoptable rescue cats from Kitten Rescue) will have a meowgnificent time doing kitty things in an inter-species lounge enclosed by a CatAviary designed by Freecell and Gia Wolff. Volunteers will be on site to facilitate adoptions when a kitty inevitably captures your heart.
Thanks to previous purr-formances in New York and Connecticut, a grand total of 43 purr-formers now have purrmanent gigs (i.e. homes)! And we look furward to finding homes for even more pussies in LA.
This inter-species installation is produced in collaboration with Lisa Anne Auerbach, Lucky deBellevue, Rochelle Feinstein, Jonathan Horowitz, Dane Johnson, Jane Kaplowitz, Keith Rocka Knittel, Max Krivitzky, Ann Leese, Cary Leibowitz, Paul McMahon, Rob Pruitt, Sam Roeck, Ruth Root, Jason Rosenberg, Theo Rosenblum + Chelsea Seltzer, Joe Scanlan, and Lena Wolek.
